Coverage varies widely. The narrowest listed global plan covers 23 destinations, while the broadest covers 228. Of the 499 active plans, 386 (77%) include at least 100 destinations and 448 (90%) include at least 50. "Global" is a plan category, not a guarantee that every country is included.

Global eSIM price per GB by country.

Search 228 destinations to compare the median and lowest USD price per GB available from qualifying global plans. The median is the middle value in the current sample, while the minimum may come from a larger data package.

Sample sizes differ by destination because each country is included in a different number of global plans.

How this table is calculated.

The table analyses 405 active metered GLOBAL plans from 33 providers. A plan qualifies when it has a finite data allowance of no more than 50 GB, validity of at least 3 days, a positive USD price per GB and an explicit destination list.

  1. For each qualifying plan, price per GB equals the USD plan price divided by included data. A $12 plan with 5 GB therefore costs $2.40 per GB. We group each plan under every destination it covers. The median is the middle observed value, or the average of the two middle values when the sample size is even. The minimum is the lowest observed value.
  2. We exclude unlimited plans because they have no finite GB denominator. We also exclude plans over 50 GB, plans valid for fewer than 3 days, and records without a positive price per GB or an explicit destination list.
  3. The full catalogue contains 34 providers. 33 currently have at least one plan that passes every calculation rule.
  4. The minimum price per GB is not necessarily the plan with the lowest checkout price. Taxes, currency conversion, promotions and package size can affect the final amount.

How to compare global eSIM plans

Use your itinerary as the filter. The GLOBAL label alone is not a coverage guarantee.

1. Enter every destination

Add every country on your itinerary. The catalogue will keep only plans that cover all selected stops.

2. Estimate your total data

Multiply your expected daily use by the number of travel days, then choose the smallest package above that estimate.

3. Compare both price measures

A larger package can have a lower price per GB while still costing more overall. Compare both values.

4. Check the plan rules

Confirm activation timing, supported networks, hotspot availability, 5G access and whether the plan includes calls or SMS.

Global eSIM FAQ.

Coverage, activation and available features vary by plan. Check these points before you buy.

Why are 34 providers listed, but only 33 used in the price table?

The full catalogue currently contains 499 active GLOBAL plans from 34 providers. The country price table uses a narrower comparison sample: 405 metered plans from 33 providers with no more than 50 GB, at least 3 days of validity, a positive USD price per GB and an explicit destination list.

A provider can appear in the main catalogue but not in the table when none of its plans meets every calculation rule. This prevents unlimited packages, unusually large bundles and very short passes from making country comparisons look artificially cheap.

Should I buy one global eSIM or several regional or local plans?

A global eSIM is usually more convenient when one trip crosses several regions because the same profile can remain installed throughout the journey. Regional or local plans can offer better value when most of the trip takes place in one area or country.

Compare the price of one global plan with the combined price of the regional or local plans needed for the same route, data allowance and validity. One global plan can cost more, but it avoids installing and managing several profiles during the trip.

What should I do if one country on my itinerary is not covered?

Choose another global plan or combine the original plan with a regional or local eSIM for the missing stop. Current global plans cover between 23 and 228 destinations, with a median of 118, so the word "global" cannot replace an exact coverage check.

Enter every destination in the catalogue filter before comparing prices. The results will contain only plans covering all selected countries. Before purchasing, open the plan details and confirm the supported countries and networks with the provider.

Can the same global eSIM keep working after I cross a border?

Yes, provided the next country is covered and the plan still has data and validity remaining. Crossing a border normally does not reset either allowance. For example, a 14-day plan with 6 days remaining should still have those same 6 days after entering another supported country.

The phone may take several minutes to register on a new partner network. Data roaming usually needs to be enabled for the eSIM line, and manual network selection may occasionally be required. Exact behaviour depends on the provider and destination network.

How much data should I buy for a multi-country trip?

Estimate a daily data budget and multiply it by the number of travel days. For a 14-day trip, 250 MB per day equals 3.5 GB, 500 MB per day equals 7 GB, and 1 GB per day equals 14 GB.

Choose the lower range when most large downloads happen over Wi-Fi. Choose a larger allowance when you expect frequent video, hotspot use or remote work. Buying the smallest package above your estimate is usually more useful than selecting the lowest advertised price per GB.

Do global eSIMs include calls, SMS, 5G and hotspot use?

Not automatically. The GLOBAL label describes geographic coverage. It does not define the plan's features. Voice calls, SMS, a local phone number, 5G access and hotspot support are separate plan attributes.

Many travel eSIMs are data-only, and available network features can differ between countries under the same plan. Check the plan details and provider terms before purchase, particularly if you need incoming SMS for verification, voice calls, tethering or guaranteed 5G connectivity.

Can I install a global eSIM before departure without starting its validity?

Sometimes. Some plans begin their validity when the eSIM is installed, while others start only after the first connection to a supported network. The GLOBAL label does not indicate which activation rule applies.

If a plan starts on installation, installing it 7 days before departure can consume 7 days of validity before the trip begins. If it starts on first network connection, earlier installation may be safe. Follow the provider's instructions and install over reliable Wi-Fi.

Can I top up or reuse a global eSIM for another trip?

That depends on the provider and the eSIM profile. Some providers allow additional data packages to be added to an existing profile, while others issue a new eSIM for every purchase. An expired data package does not always mean that the installed profile must be deleted.

Before removing an eSIM, check whether the provider supports top-ups or future packages on the same profile. For a later trip, verify the new package's destination list, activation rule and validity again because these can differ from the original plan.
